Daily Prayer

Featured image: Jean-Léon Gérôme, Prayers in the Mosque

[I thought it would be a good idea to start my day with a prayer  for thanking who/what-ever is responsible for our existence, while at the same time, keeping me grounded by reminding me that there’s a lot of work to be done by all of us. Therefore, I made this prayer at 5:10 am today.
Note that I have used the word ‘God’ for the higher power that resides among us, and NOT for the classical definition of God, which comes with an implied tag of ‘religion’ attached to it.]

Thank You, God, for the food I eat, the water I drink, the clothes I wear and the roof over my head.
Thank You for my family and friends.
Thank You for whatever I’ve learnt, deliberately and otherwise.
Thank You for giving us Mother Earth and all Her treasures, along with the brains to do wonders with them.
Sorry for pollution, hunger, poverty, war and strife. Sorry for discriminating among your own children;
At the same time, thank You for giving all of us the judgement to recognize these things as wrong, the conscience to want to abolish them and minds sharp enough to be able to do that.
Stand by my side, dear God, in my endeavour to make the world a better, happier place, and to understand the scheme of things within and without.

[14.10.2016, Edit: Ayy, I don’t say this prayer anymore, because I was hit by an epiphany a coupla weeks back – in the form of reasoning against the entire concept of God or any higher power – an epiphany so cogent, that it made me a complete atheist. So, yeah, I’m not on the fence about that anymore. But still, I’ll keep this post just because.

PS: Coincidentally, it is 5:10 am as I write this edit. Refer to the note at the beginning of the post to get the coincidence.]
