One Year

[25.11.2016: Wow, this poem is shit. It is absolute crap. Wow. Why the fuck did I even write it?]

[Today, the 27th of May, 2016 is the one year anniversary of the Mahrashtra HSC March 2015 result.]

One year ago, no clock-hand moved,
The world simply stood still.
I only joke - the world didn't halt,
but carried on as it will.

Stood still, it did, for but one girl
Whose eyes, glued to the screen,
Just stared and stared and hoped that this
would soon her pride redeem.

The screen didn't budge,
The number stayed four hundred forty four.
The picture that this number gave
No resemblance to her bore.

That sixty eight point three oh eight —
By now etched in her mind —
Still keeps her up some nights
Wondering why there's no rewind —

A rewind button for life itself
To give her back two years —
Two years without those if's and but's,
Two years without those tears.

Not gonna happen. Duh, she knows,
She has made her peace with it,
chucked all that seemed to have gone wrong,
kept only the good shit...

The waiting after Physics class,
The countless thoughts inked,
The friends she made, the friends she lost,
Crushed dreams that made her heart sink.

Okay, maybe not just the good shit,
There's unpleasant stuff there too.
But all of it has taught her things
She won't forget anytime soon.
